History of COIMBATORE CITY
The city, in olden times was ruled by a Kongu King named Kovan and was called Kovanpudur. As time passed, it came to be addressed as Koyambuthur or Coimbatore. During the rule of the Sangam Chera kings in the 12th century, the city was home to Kosars, a tribe. Later, other empires like the Cholas, Rashtrakutas and Vijayanagar ruled the city.
