The history of this temple is very interesting. It begins with the Perga family, a Jain family from Karnataka. The Perga family sheltered the guardian angels of Hindu Lord Dharma. Dharma, pleased with their gesture, entered their dreams. The Perga family then donated their house to the temple.

This temple is a perfect culmination of different religions. The temple, run by a Jain family, actually worships Hinduism. The temple follows the "Shaiva" sect and thus makes the temple very unique.
  
As the temple holds a special position in the history of Dhamasthala, it is also one of the main places to visit in Mangalore. Another very interesting thing about this temple is the location of Heggade. Heggade's position is very important as he represents Lord Manjunath himself. Heggade then performs all the duties of Lord Manjunath.
