History of Srirangapatna- 

In the 9th century, the island town of Srirangapatna was discovered by the Ganga dynasty. During the Vijaynagar Empire, this town became very famous for its royalty. During that particular era, this city was used as a seat to oversee the neighboring kingdoms. After a few years, the Wodeyar Kings got the rule over this town by making the downfall of the Vijaynagar Empire. From the year of 1610, the town was declared as the capital of Mysore. Later the Wodeyar rulers were defeated by Hyder Ali and they claimed the throne of Srirangapatna. For a short period, this town also was considered as the de facto capital under the ruling of Tipu Sultan. In 1799, when the battle of Srirangapatna happened, Tipu Sultan was killed inside the fort. For all these historical significance this town is very popular among tourists.
