Madurai History
Madurai has a rich history dating back to the 3rd century BCE. The Pandyan Dynasty made Madurai its capital city. Other dynasties to have ruled over this city are Kalabhra, Cholas, Delhi Sultanate, Vijayanagar Empire, Nayaks, and other conquerors like Arcot Nawab, Chandra Sahib and Muhammed Yusuf Khan.
