Another interesting fact for an adventure-seeker would be the bouldery landscape, coracle rides on the Tungabhadra, and sunsets to die for. Hampi Sightseeing Places
Virupaksha Temple is one of the principal temples in Hampi, dedicated to Lord Shiva and retains its status as an active temple. Its soaring gopuram (gateway tower), exquisite sculptural decorations, and charged atmosphere draw large numbers of devotees and tourists. There are several small shrines within the temple complex, as well as an ornate courtyard, rendering the temple a must-visit landmark.
The best of Vijayanagara architecture, the temple finds fame because of its stone chariot and musical pillars. The massive halls, intricately carved pillars and large pavilions of the temple speak of the artistic brilliance of the time of Vijayanagara. The musical pillars produce distinct musical notes when tapped, adding to the charm of this temple.
Located on Hemakuta Hill, Kadalekalu Ganesha Temple is one of Hampi's most revered holy sites. The temple houses one of the world's most giant statues of Lord Ganesha, measuring 15 feet. The name "Kadalekalu" is derived from the shape of Lord Ganesha's belly, which looks exactly like a Bengal gram. Most Hampi tour packages would not be complete without visiting this fabulous temple.
4. Lotus Mahal
In the Zenana Enclosure, Lotus Mahal is a beautiful fusion of Indo-Islamic architectural styles. It is graced with arched windows and intricate carvings and crowned with lotus-shaped domes, thus displaying a regal and graceful touch. Once regarded as a personal retreat for the Vijayanagara queens, it is indeed an architectural marvel that is one of the few unique structures found in Hampi.
5. Matanga Hill
For a breathtaking panoramic view of Hampi, Matanga Hill is the focal point. A quick trek to the top witness’s awe-inspiring views of the sunrise and sunsets. The hill has contiguous views of the remnant structures of Hampi, the Tungabhadra River, and the green countryside area of Hampi-the erstwhile site of grandeur-besides being popular with photographers and nature lovers.
The Tungabhadra River meanders through beautiful Hampi. People go for coracle rides, temple-hopping along its banks, and lazing in the cool water. The banks abound with old carvings and shrines, adding glory to the historical experience. It is one of the best places to visit in Hampi.
Hampi History
A wonderful city turned world heritage site, Hampi succeeded as the great capital of Vijayanagara Empire (14th-16th century), one of South India's strongest kingdoms. Founded by Harihara and Bukka in 1336, Hampi flourished as a center of trade, culture, and religion and drew merchants from Persia and Portugal. The city boasted grand temples, palaces, and markets that represented its wealth and artistic brilliance.
The empire was disintegrated in 1565, after the Battle of Talikota, with the most intense attack launched by Deccan Sultanates who invaded and destroyed the city. Hampi has become a shadow of its former self but is still proud to have fallen from a great height. Presently, it stands an important archaeological and tourist place, showcasing the opulence of medieval South India.

Hampi is in the eastern part of central Karnataka. It is on the northern shore of the Tungabhadra River. Around the river are steep hills home to many shrines and idols of Lord Shiva.
It was built by Lakhan Dandesha, a nayaka (chieftain) in the Vijayanagara Empire who worked for Deva Raya II, also known as Prauda Deva Raya. During Hampi tour packages, this is one of the best temples to see.
We booked a 3 day 2 night trip to Hampi from Hyderabad. We are very happy with how the whole trip went. From the start, the planning done by Miss Hema was very prompt and responsive. She was also checking up on us throughout the trip to see how things were going.
We were also blessed with Arun, our driver for the trip. He communicated well in English and was very attentive throughout the trip. He was our translator in places where they didn’t understand us. This trip involves a long 8 hour journey to the UNESCO heritage area. We felt generally safe as he is a skilled driver.Another special mention is to Ram, our guide in Hampi. He is very knowledgable and passionate about his hometown. We explored the “open air museum” that is Hampi with him, where he gave us a crash course of the ancient civilisation. He also arranged a coracle ride for us as we enjoyed the views.
We were also able to catch the beautiful sunset at Hemakuta hill as per his recommendation.
Overall the experience has been great. As foreigners, we highly recommend my holiday happiness to arrange the best there is.
I recently took a hampi package. It was so wonderful experience. Thanks my holiday happiness team.
They arranged everything perfect. Travel agency was in constant touch. Very professional
It was smooth sailing starting from enquiries and ending with dropping us on airport. Prompt service, polite interaction, good rates, regular updates and we had no problems at all. Cab driver Mr Daleep needs a special mention as his decent behaviour made the trip extremely enjoyable and worth remembering. Whole heartedly recommend.
I recently booked trip with My Happy Holidays and overall, I had a great experience! They provide excellent service for travel arrangements, including private cab transportation, hotel bookings, and local sightseeing. The private cab was clean, and the driver was professional, friendly, and punctual, which made the long drives comfortable and stress-free.
One thing to note is that while most of the services were top-notch, the Hampi international hotel provided during one part of the trip wasn't up to my expectations. It didn’t match the standards I was hoping for, but the rest of the trip made up for it.
If they can improve consistency in hotel quality, they’ll truly offer a five-star travel experience. Despite this, I’d still recommend them for anyone looking for hassle-free travel with great customer service and comfortable driving
