Kalyana Mandapa

The Kalyana Mandapa, on the back side of the main Veerabhadra Temple in the same complex, is another big attraction. It has a lot of artworks, just like the mukha-mandapa of the Veerabhadra Temple. It is possible to get to the Kalyana Mandapa by going past Nagalinga.

What are the architectural features of Kalyana Mandapa?

They built the Kalyana Mandapa on an elevated platform. This mandap's architecture is comparable to that of the central temple mandap, with similar circular architecture for the pillars. This building was made to conduct the Kalyana ceremony of Lord Shiva and Parvathi annually during the temple's festival season. Different gods and saints who come to earth from heaven during the festivals are all portrayed in carvings in this beautiful mandapa; these gods include Devendra, Vasishta, Brihaspathy, Viswamita, Vayu, Yama, Varuna, Kubera, and others.

The builders used about 38 granite pillars to construct the mandapa. Some of these are beautified with images of Shiva Parvathi, Panchamukha Brahma, Dathatreya, Gandharvas, triple-headed cow, Saptamaharshis, and many gods, people, and animals. You can see some of the most beautiful works in the temple within this mandapa, which lacks a roof.

After the kalyana mandapa, there is a big open area on the rare side of the temple with a long corridor around the back wall. During the Vijayanagar rule, people used this area for leisure and cultural events. Rocks on the hill make a natural base for the temple grounds.
