Best time to go
July to September is the ideal time to visit Kashmir Great Lakes Trek. During this time, you will find the place very pleasant, and the trek will be easy. During all the months except July to September, the whole area is covered with snow. And during those times, it will be tough for you to trek.
During July, the temperature can be around 25 to 30 degrees during the day. Also, during the night time, the temperature can drop about 5 to 8 degrees Celsius.
After August, the temperature drops, and it can also be around -3 to -5 degrees Celsius.
The journey plan for Kashmir Great Lakes Trek
Day 1
Among the different places to visit in Kashmir, this place is definitely the best for good trekkers.
On the first day of the trek, you will start the trek to Nichnai. This trek will be a moderate trek. From here, you will begin to the next hike on the second day.
Day 2
Trek from Nichnai to Vishnusar
This trek covers a total distance of 13.5 kilometers. You have to do trekking for 7 to 7.5 hours to complete the whole hike. For about one hour, you only have to do a flat walk, and it will be easy for you during that time. You will complete the whole trek via the Nichnai pass.
Day 3
Trek from Vishnusar to Gadsar
On this day, you have to do 16 kilometers of trekking. The duration for this trek will be around 7.5 hours to 8 hours. This trek will pass through Gadsar pass. On this trek, you will find 2 hours of high-raised trek and, after that, 1 hour of down trek.
Day 4
Trek from Gadsar to Satsar
After reaching Gadsar, you have to travel from Gadsar to Satsar. Here, you will travel a total distance of 11.5 kilometers. This trek will take 4.5 to 5 hours to trek.
Day 5
Trek from Satsar to Gangabal
From Satsar, the next trek goes to Gangabal. This trek is challenging, and you have to trek for a total distance of 13 km. You have to do 6-7 hours of hiking to complete it. To achieve this mentioned trek, you have to go via the Zaj pass.
Day 6
Trek from Gangabal to Naranag
This is the last part of the trek. This covers a total distance of 13 kilometers. The hike is a moderate one, and you have to go trekking for a total of 6 hours.
