Viralimalai Murugan temple is a famous Hindu temple located in the town of Wadali Malai. This famous temple is dedicated to Lord Murugan, the son of Lord Shiva and Parvati. This holy place is one of Tiruchirapalli's most famous pilgrimage sites for devotees.

The temple consists of various shrines along with the main shrine of Lord Murugan. It is believed that once upon a time, Lord Murugan appeared in the form of a young boy before a group of sages. At that time, the sages were performing Yagya in a nearby forest.

At that time, Lord Murugan defeated the demon and protected the sages. After that time, at that place, a Shrine was constructed, and later the whole temple was formed.

History of the Viralimalai Murugan temple

It is believed that a famous king of the Pallava dynasty, Nandivarman 2, built the temple. After that, during the Cholas rule also, various rebuilding and reconstruction work was done inside the temple.

When British rule was present in India, at that time, the temple was used as a military hospital. Later on, it was again converted into a temple.

A very famous and intricate Dravidian architecture is followed inside the Viralimalai Murugan Temple.
