History of Mallikarjuna Temples

It is a belief that the construction of the temples was in the Rashtrakuta and Kalyani Chalukya eras. The temples are in the Phamsana style, with tiered pyramids making up most monuments. Granite that is smooth and uncarved makes up the temple's outside walls.

The inner sanctum's tower is in the traditional Rashtrakuta manner. The central shrine comprises a pillared chief mandapa or hall, a closed middle mandapa, and the inner sanctum. The roof of the galleries has angled eaves and smooth, unadorned interior walls and pillars.

Pyramid-shaped superstructures composed of closely spaced horizontal layers are on top of the shrines. The lovely Agastya Lake has a magnificent view of the enormous rocky hills of Badami at its flanks. It is at the outside of the clusters of temples.

The construction of these temples is in the Phamsana style (pyramid). The Rashtrakuta and Kalyani Chalukya empires were responsible for its construction. The exterior walls of the temple are plain sandstone without any decorations.

A Pillard Mukha Mandapa, an enclosed Madhya mandapa, and an inner sanctum are all included in the main temple. Most of the interior pillars and walls are plain. The eastern and northern flanks of the main temple are home to several lesser shrines. The majority of them are closed for remodeling.
