Major Attractions

Ancient Legacy
The magnificent building of the spectacular temple is as ancient as the 15th century. It was built under the supervision of the eminent ancient ruler Pooradam DevanarayananThampuran of Chembakasserry himself which makes the temple site a highly attractive place. It is quite a popular sacred site among archaeologists and even art lovers from an across the globe.

Legend
It is well believed that the beloved Hindu lord Guruvayoorappan comes every day to the sacred temple site to eat the delicious offering prepared here by the temple priests and workers. The offering is a local delicacy made from a combination of rice, milk and sugar locally named as 'Payasam'. It is a sort of thick rice pudding which is extremely delicious in taste. As per the legend, it is cooked daily. The legend of the lord is an extension to the period of twelve years during the rule of Tipu Sultan when the gorgeous idol of the lord was kept safely within the temple premises in the 1780s.
Another set of beliefs say that it is in response to the bet that the king lost to Shri Krishna as a continuation to which the payasam is given every day.

Festivals
The exciting festival of Aaraattu in March and April along with Chambakulam Moolam water fest celebrating the placing of the gorgeous idol are celebrated every year with people across the globe coming to enjoy it.

The Idol
One of the most spectacular attractions of the wonderfully attractive temple is the gorgeous Hindu Lord Krishna idol carved in granite stone which is deep black in shade. It shines so beautifully that it makes your heart stay there for a few hours and enjoy the serene beauty of the peaceful idol.

All these wonderful sacred specifications make the gorgeous temple site one of the most pious sites of the city of Alleppey and also among the best tourist place in Alleppey.
