Bharathi Park also known as Government Park is a mark of nature’s beauty in the French Town of Pondicherry. The lush green fields and big trees provide relief to people in the summer days. With hill around and children playing in the pond, people lying on the granite bench to rest, families get together, old people taking a walk, the park is one of the best places in Pondicherry to visit on your trip.

The Aayi Mandapam stands at the center of the park and is a mark of white beauty. The park is divided by four lanes into equal parts i.e. the Raj Nivas (palace of French Governor), the museum (Pondicherry museum famous for French artifacts), and the Aayi memorial. The former French bandstand lies in the eastern part behind huge green trees. Pondicherry art gallery, the Chamber of Commerce and Hotel Qualithe is on the southern side of the park. 

Location 

Bharathi Park is located in the old colonial town of Pondicherry i.e. in the White town. It lies by the Rue Saint Gilles road and is an important part of Pondicherry Tourism. 

Bharathi Park Pondicherry History

The present park was used as a parade park for the French band people. They practiced playing in this park until the year 1940. In the year 2006, the park was again renovated into a beautiful spot for public recreation. The park has got four entrances, surrounded by four iron gates. It is now one of the famous places in Pondicherry Tour package. 

Attractions

The park is a clean area with the cool breeze, lush green fields, and huge trees around. The park is a very safe tourist spot where you can leave your child to play around. There swings, playground equipment and other rides for children. It is decorated with flowers and green bushes. One will feel relaxed and fresh upon visiting the park.

There stone statues around and other architect works adding to the attraction of the park. Well laid roads for local people and tourists are there, one can take a quick walk or do jogging in the nature park. Artificial water fountains, Traffic Park and ponds enhance its beauty.
