History of Panchgani

The British company founded the city of Panchgani, and they used to visit the place during the summers. They also named it as summer home. In the 1960s, a British director named John Chesson made the hill station better and more organized. At first, Mahabaleshwar was the British summer center, but they couldn't stay there during the monsoon. After some thought, they chose Panchgani because the weather is nice there all year.

John Chesson was assigned the task of finding an ideal location for a summer retreat. After some consideration, he chose a picturesque area nestled between five towns: Dhandeghar, Godavli, Amral, Khingar, and Taighat. He was entrusted with managing this beautiful spot, which came to be known as Panchgani.
