It's like the city takes everything in and makes it its own. From up-and-coming players trying to make it big in Hollywood movies to bolly stars and wealthy business people to groups of fishermen and people who live in slums, Mumbai is a city that is happy to have stories from all walks of life.

History and Cultural Significance

Bombay, or Mumbai, was established in 1661 as a strategic natural harbor by the Portuguese. The city attracted British and Dutch interests, and in 1661, the islands were given as dowry to the British. In 1668, the British East India Company leased three of the islands to Bombay, transforming it into the Bombay Presidency. The British eventually unified the islands under the Hornby Vellard project. Bombay was active in India's independence struggle and was part of the Quit India Movement and Royal Navy Mutiny.

Mumbai Street Food and Local Cuisine

Mumbai is diverse in many areas, including cuisine. You may have two spicy vadapavs or a plate of hot idlis for INR 20 or a superb Japanese supper at Wasabi, Taj for INR 6000. The city has more foreign eateries than any other Indian city.

A fair blend of north and south Indian cuisines is also present. It has party pubs like Hard Rock Café (Worli / Andheri), The Little Door (Andheri), and Social (multiple locations) and affordable bars like Gokul (Colaba), Janta (Bandra), and Laxmi (Powai) for drinking with friends.

The city has long promised easy meals, from gallis street food to food trucks and canteens. The Indian financial hub, Mumbai, offers some of the greatest cafés. Continue your quest for hidden jewels in the Queen of Food City.

Mumbai Nightlife

The city of Mumbai is clearly full of things to do and people moving around during the day, and it's not quiet at night either. The city that never sleeps sees people sneak out at night to take on the town, whether it's to get over the Monday blues or relax on a Saturday night. The place with the best nightlife in the country, no question about it, making it a top choice for Mumbai tour packages.
