History of the city 

Cuttack is one of the oldest towns in India. It used to be the capital of Orissa. It was founded as a defense base by King Nrupa in the year 989. It was the capital of the Ganga Dynasty in the 1200s. Before Firoz Shah Tughlaq took it over in the 14th century, the city grew and thrived beautifully. Distress spread through the city during this time, and a lot of property was damaged and stolen. On the other hand, the city has grown and is still the economic center of Orissa.

Cuttack has a past of 1000 years and is famous for its silver filigree works. It is also called the Millennium City and the Silver City. Because the Odisha High Court is here, it is also known as the judicial city of Odisha.

What is Cuttack's old name?

The name Cuttack comes from the Sanskrit word Kataka, which is spelled differently in English. Kataka can mean either a military camp or the seat of government that is guarded by the army. It also literally means "the fort," referring to the old Barabati Fort, which is where the city grew up.

Best time to visit 

From April to June, the summers are very hot, and it's generally not fun to walk around the city in that kind of heat. The winters are warm, with temperatures dropping as low as 8 degrees Celsius. From October to March is the best time to visit this place. The rainy season is July through September, so you can also visit this place during this time.
