The temple town of Karnataka, Kollur is one of the top destinations where you will find the beautiful antique, the Kollur Mookambika Temple. It is located at the base of the valley named Kodachadri mountain peak which is located at the bank of the river Souparnika.   
  
It is distanced around 73 kilometers from Udupi, 60 kilometers from Murudeshwara and covering a distance of 133 kilometers from the Mangalore.

The place Kollur is known to be the place where seven mukti stalas were created by the Parashurama. One of the top places to visit in Murudeshwar, It includes the places, namely, Subrahmanya, Sankaranarayana, Udupi, Kumbasi, and Gokarna. Who built Kollur Mookambika temple? 

The Hindu sage Parashurama created this temple solely dedicated to the devi Mookambika.  

What is Mookambika Temple famous for?

The temple is solely dedicated in the name of goddess Parvathi. As per the history, goddess Parvathi, once killed a demon known by the name of Kamsasuran who resided here, trying to become much more powerful through his penance. 

The devi along with the help of Ganesha, Veerabadra and Shiva made him dumb using tricks. He later called as Mookasuran (Mooka meaning dumb). He was killed by the chakra of the goddess which is called Mookambika. 

The place where Mookasura was killed by Devi Parvathi is known as Marana Katte. The well-liked panchaloha picture of the goddess Mookambika is sanctified by Adi Shankaracharya, when he came to the place. The devi is designed with three eyes and four arms with an attractive chakra in her hand. The idol is sitting on a posture called Padmahasana. 
 
The idol of Mookambika is the best manifestation of the Shakti, Mahalakshmi and Sarawati.  

Historical importance of Kollur Mookambika temple 

Kollur Mookambika temple is considered to be 1200 years old.  It was built based on a Dravidian style receiving a lot of enhancements at the 15th/ 16th century, the period of Nayakas.  There is a wonderful quadrangular sanctum inside the temple along with a Vimana. 

The Kollur Mookambika temple encompasses of 135 feet towering mandapa adorned with the beautification of diverse deities.  The ancient sculpture of various gods along with the Panchamukha Ganesha is also observed.  There is a huge deepasthambam which is a lamp pole found, standing tall inside the temple along with 21 concentric loops. 

Lord Shiva is worshipped in the form of a Lingam, inside the temple.

Praying at the Kollur Mookambika temple is enhanced with the admired belief of the goddess Mookambika, who embodies the goddess of all times. Thousands of devotees travel to the Kollur to make the darshan and offer seva to the goddess for fulfilling their desire based on health, life, marriage, and wealth.
 
There are few do’s to carry out while you are inside the temple.

Any sort of seva offering must be obtained from the seva counter of the temple. It should be authorized and signed by the respective authority of the place. 

The donations are collected and handed over to the respective seva counter, against every receipt. 
Coordinating with the temple authorities is needed, to keep the temple premises clean. This will keep the sacred surroundings of the temple. 

Devotees need to be barefoot to enter the temple.  The puja timings are 5 am to 1:30 pm- 03.00 pm to 09.00 pm devotees are allowed for darshan. The timings for darshan are from 3.00 pm to 5.00pm and no sevas are performed during this time.
