Sri Janardanaswamy Temple is a very beautiful temple located in Varkala. The temple has a really great history. A large number of people are coming to this beautiful temple. This temple is considered as one of the oldest temples in Kerala and some people will even suggest that the temple is more than 2000 years old. The temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna in the form of Lord Janardanaswamy.

Architecture of the Sri Janardanaswamy Temple

Sri Janardanaswamy Temple has a very beautiful architecture.  When you enter the temple, you will find that Gopuram has very intricate carvings and sculptures. On the Gopuram, you will find the carvings of different mythological scenes. In the main complex along with the main shrine, you will find other shrines also. There is a sacred pond also inside the temple which is known as Janardana  Kulam. It is believed that the pond has medicinal properties. 

Not only this, but the temple is a great center for meditation also. A large number of people are coming here for self-enlightenment. Different types of festivals and rituals are also celebrated in the temple. One of the most common rituals that is celebrated here is Vavu Bali.
