Revdanda Fort and Beach offer a perfect blend of history and natural beauty, with ancient fort ruins and a serene, scenic beach. Revdanda Fort is an old Portuguese fort in the district of Raigad in the Indian state of Maharashtra. At the start of the Kundalika River, the fort is one of the must-visit places to visit in Alibaug.

What is Revdanda famous for?

This well-known Portuguese fort in Revdanda was built in the 1600s and is full of interesting history. People come to see the fort's amazing ruins and learn about the colonial past of the area. People also like Revdanda because it has a lovely beach.

There are lots of fun things to do there, like swimming, bird watching, and fishing. It's even more beautiful because it's at the start of the Kundalika River. The beach and fort make it a must-see in Alibaug.

History of Revdanda Fort

Currently, this fort stands built by Portuguese in 1524 CE. Shivaji's dad, Shahaji, wrote to the Captain of the Portuguese based at Chaul Fort in the year 1636 and requested his family to be housed there. There was always a threat from Delhi's Mughal rulers and Bijapur's Adilshahi masters.

Nizamshahi master was being handled by Shahaji, who believed to be an eleven-year-old boy. Mentioning about the Nizamshahi kingdom, he'd say that part of its territory could be surrendered to the Portuguese, as he'd control the property in the name of the boy prince.

Even though Shahaji was friends with the Portuguese, they wouldn't do what he asked because they feared what Delhi and Bijapur would do. It's funny that Shahaji's son Shivaji took over the Chaul (Revdanda) fort. He used it to start the Maratha navy a few decades later.
