Mausima Temple is a very famous and holy temple located in Odisha. This temple is well known for its religious significance. The temple is dedicated to the goddess Maa Ugratara. Goddess Ugratara has been considered a manifestation of Goddess Durga. Many tourists from all over the world are coming to this location to seek blessings.

History of the Famous Mausima Temple 

It is believed that once upon a time, King Shashanka was having a battle with a very powerful demon Raktabahu. Unfortunately, the demon could multiply himself whenever his blood touched the ground. During that situation, the king and the soldiers prayed to the goddess Durga. Maa Durga appeared in front of them in the form of goddess Ugratara. 

After the battle, the king established the famous temple. Various types of festivals are also celebrated inside the temple throughout the year. One of the most famous festivals is Grand Chaitra Mangalavara. This festival is celebrated during the months of Chaitra. 

The architecture of the famous Mausima Temple

A very beautiful Kalinga-style architecture is followed inside the temple. Not only this but the temple walls are filled with beautiful cultures and carvings. The main sanctum of the temple is known as Vimana. The vimana has a pyramidal shape, and all the walls of the main sanctum are covered with beautiful creatures and scenes from Hindu mythology. 

The entrance gate of the Mausima temple is known as Torana. On the whole entrance gateway, carvings and sculptures are present. Along with the normal carvings and sculptures that you will see inside the temple, stone carvings are also present. These carvings depict different Gods, goddesses, animals, and other mythological scenes. 

On the top of the temple's spire, you will see a disk-like structure. This disk-like structure symbolizes the sun. Not only this but above the Amalaka, you can see a pot-like structure also. This pot-like structure symbolizes prosperity. 

A very beautiful and sacred pond is also present inside the temple. The name of the sacred pond is Bindusagar Lake. It is believed that if any devotee is having a dip in the water, then they will get rid of different types of problems. It is also believed that the holy water or the temple will bring blessings and prosperity.
