History of the Mukteshwar Temple

It is believed that the Mukteshwar temple was built during the rule of the Somavamsi dynasty. King Yayati 1 was a very famous ruler of the Somavamsi dynasty. The dynasty played a great role in promoting religion and culture. 

The temple is very famous for the different types of festivals celebrated here. One of the most famous festivals celebrated is the famous annual Mukteshwar Dance Festival. In this festival, a classical Odissi dance performance is performed. Along with this, different other famous festivals are also celebrated, like Durga Puja, Shivratri, and a lot more. 

The architecture of the Temple

Mukteshwar Temple Bhubaneswar has very beautiful architecture. Kalinga-style architecture has been followed inside the temple. When you enter the temple, you will see that the main gateway of the temple, or the Torana, has very beautiful carvings and sculptures. 

A main Tower or vimana is present inside the temple, which has a height of 35 feet. The full vimana is covered with beautiful cultures and carvings and the carving that a present on the vimana also depicts gods, goddesses, celestial beings, and other mythological creatures. 

There is a very famous temple assembly hall located in front of the Vimana. The hall is used as a gathering place for devotees. Not only this but the walls of the hall are also covered with beautiful carvings and sculptures.Along with the main Shrine that is present inside the temple, other shrines are also present.
