Rana Kumbha Palace situated within the walls of sprawling Chittorgarh Fort, Rana Kumbha Palace is where the famed Rana Kumbh spent most of his life. The magisterial architecture of the palace has made this one of the top places to visit in Chittorgarh.

This was originally the site of a ruined palace of Bappa Rawal of 734 AD. Rana Kumbh rebuilt this palace in the 15th century. This palace consists of many underground cellars. According to people, the legendary queen Rani Padmini performed ‘Jauhar’ in those cellars. It was medieval Rajasthani custom of honorary self-immolation to protect from the humiliation of surrender the enemy. Moreover, Maharaja Udai Singh, founder of Udaipur, is said to born here in this palace.

Rana Kumbh was a great patron of traditional art and culture. A look at the rich texture will testify that. Rana Kumbh built this place of decorated sandstones with stucco layering. Notable among many of its unique features is the large rectangular basement upon which the whole building stands. Moreover, the artificial battlements and turrets ornate the walls of the palace. However, the most distinct feature of Rana Kumbh Palace is the series of baldachin balconies. These hanging edifices are the epitome of Rajput architectural genius.

The palace of Rana Kumbh has two main entrances- Tripolia pol and Badi pol. The first entrance is the Tripolia Pol. This will lead you to an open patio. The main Mahals of the palace are beside the courtyard itself. They are Suraj Gokhra, Zanana mahal, Kanwarpapa-ka-Mahal.

Additionally, you can see an ancient Shiva adjacent to the palace walls. Besides, this palace also held many stables for horses and elephants. In the castle, there are many underground cells. Rani Padmini committed Jauhar in one of the cells here to protect herself from Alauddin Khilji.

Nau Lakha Bandar - a nine-lakh treasury building- is another major attraction of the palace. In those times, this was used as the palace's treasury, which is why Rana Kumbh constructed it close to the palace.

Some of the other tourist attractions are mansions of Pannadhai and Meerabai. Rani Meera, or Meerabai, also graced this palace with her Bhajans.

All in all, your CHITTORGARH TOURISM PACKAGE is incomplete without the addition of majestic Rana Kumbha Palace.
