The Vijay Stambh or the Victory Tower is a very popular tourist attraction of Rajasthan. Situated inside the barriers of the Chittorgarh Fort, very near to the famous “Kirti Stambh” or Tower of Fame , the Vijay Stambh is 37.19 metres high with a 14 m2 platform and a base width of 9 metres. The Vijay Stambh is dedicated to the Hindu God Vishnu. The tour plan of this tower is almost always found in various CHITTORGARH TOURISM PACKAGES. This place should definitely be on your list of places to visit Chittorgarh especially while visiting the majestic Chittorgarh Fort.

Vijay Stambh built by:

Vijay Stambh was built under the rule of Rana Kumbha of Mewar in the year 1448 to commemorate his victory in war. Rana Kumbha is known for his excellent military career against many sultanates to this day, and was also a great patroniser of art, music and architecture. His commendable skill of warfare made him victorious against a combined army force of Malwa and Gujarat sultanates, which was led by the famous Mahmud Khilji and this victory was followed by the construction of this tower. The architect who actually planned and constructed this majestic tower along with his three sons was called Sutradhar Jaita. All their names can also be found on the monument.

Vijay Stambh architecture:

The architecture of the nine-storeyed Victory Tower is commendable. The interior and the exterior part of the Tower is filled with intricate and detailed carvings of many mythological Hindu deities. In the topmost storey of the tower, a very detailed genealogy of rulers of Chittorgarh can be found, starting from Hamir to Rana Kumbha. Their names are followed by their deeds and achievements, all carved to perfection on the walls of the Tower. Most interestingly, in the fifth storey of the Vijay Stambh, the names of the architect of the Tower (Sutradhar Jaita) and that of his three sons who assisted him (Napa, Puja and Poma) also find their mention in the same walls.
All of the nine storeys of the Victory Tower or the Vijay Stambh have balconies and openings which makes it breezy and bright. A flight of 157 circular steps lead to the terrace of this beautiful tower. The terrace does offer an amazing view of Chittorgarh but due to safety reasons, the access to this area has been sealed off. The tower shines bright with various colourful lights at night, which is a memorable sight to be witnessed.
