The Kannadi Perumal Temple is small and dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is on a hill about 8 km south of the Palani Hill Temple. It is a short detour from the highway that leads to Kodaikanal. The temple's name comes from the belief that the most important god in the temple protects against "drishti." It is a Sanskritic word that could mean "casting an evil eye."

Another idea is that the name comes from a group of Kannada people. They worshipped the Lord and were famous as Kannada Perumal. Over time, the temple changed its name to Kannadi Perumal Temple. The Kannadi temple is one of the best places to visit in Palani

Significance of the Kannadi Perumal Temple

Kannadi Perumal Temple is on top of a small hill and is thought to be one of the oldest churches in Palani. You may have to walk a short distance to get to the temple, but the peace inside makes it well worth it.

The most important statue in the temple is of Lord Vishnu. The local people worship him at the temple as a "Kanuti Perumal." The word "Kanuti" means "look bad" in Sanskrit. It is a belief that people who worship this form of Lord Vishnu keep them safe from any danger.

The temple is a simple building that is still interesting. Legends say that the area around the temple used to be full of thick woods, but the exact details of its history could be clearer. It is said that a shepherd who was grazing his cattle there accidentally found a holy place, which led to the building of the temple.

Today, both locals and tourists still like to go on pilgrimages to the Kannadi Perumal Temple. People come here to get blessings, to find peace of mind, and to learn about the area's rich history. Should you be in Palani, you should check out this hidden gem on a hill.
