The big Periyanayaki Amman Temple is in the middle of Palani town. It is also famous as "Town Temple" and "úr-Ambalam." The Periyanayaki Amman Temple is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Palani.
History of the Periyanayaki Amman Temple
It was built by the N?yaks four hundred years ago and later expanded by chieftains of Palani, Ayakudi, and Neikkarappatti. Goddess Periyansyaki is the main goddess, and there are sanctums for Muttukum?rasw?mi, Subramanyar, Kail?san?thar, and Natarajar.
A group of festival gods is within the iron fences of the Muttukum?ra Sw?mi shrine. The last one, Uchi Mahsksli, is a truly magnificent work of art. The temple is mostly a shrine to Muruga, and the other shrines may have been added later. The fact that the central tower is over Muruga's shrine makes this very clear. The flagpole and picture of the car are only in front of Muruga.
On the north side is Kailashnath, and on the South is Periyanayaki. Muruga is in the middle, or between the father and the other. This way of sitting is famous as Som?skanda M?rtam.
Structure
There is a mirror in the Palli Arai of the Amman shrine that you should look at. It shows the room. Almost every pillar is lavish and has a thin line of sculptures. This is the highest point of South Indian architecture in its most extravagantly sculptural form.
One pillar of the Kailasanatha shrine and another in the Navaranga Mandapam have Gn?na Dand?yudhapani carved into them amazingly. The Nadar community made the Navaranga Mandapam. The temple is more critical because of the sculptures and pillars inside.
All the v?hanas from the temples under the Devasth?nam are in the temple, like an art gallery. There are many exciting things to see, like the silver car, the ivory palanquin, and many v?hanas made of silver, brass, and wood. Their beautiful work needs to be looked at closely.
The Mari Amman Temple is close to the Periyan?yaki Temple and is very famous among the people in the area. Every Friday, it's hectic. This temple is getting more and more attention. The temple is worth the visit during the Palani tour package.
