Thiru Avinankudi Temple is at the base of Palani. The name Thiru Avinankudi comes from the fact that Lord Sun, Goddess Lakshmi, King Kamadevu, and Agni worshiped Lord Muruga here. The Temple is close to the "Vaiyapuri" and "Saravana Poigai" holy ponds. The Temple existed before Palani Dhandayuthapani Swamy, and Palani was famous as Thiru Aavinankudi in the past.

The third house of the "arupadai veedu" is here. One exciting thing about the Kodimaram is that it is made of a single stone. The main god here is Lord Muruga, who looks like a child sitting on a peacock. The other gods are Vinayaga, Annamalaiyar, Unnamulai Amman, Lord Saniswara Bhagavan, and Dhakshinamoorthy. The Thiru Avinankudi Temple is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Palani.

One unique thing is that a separate shrine is there for Lord Saniswara Bhagawan. "Kulandai Velayudhaswamy" is what people call the shrine to Lord Muruga. Most of the time, people go to Thiru Avinankudi first and then climb the foothills of Palani. Thiru Avinankudi Temple is a must-visit during the Palani tour package.

History of the Thiru Avinankudi Temple

The old, big Temple at the base of the hill is the third Padai-Veedu. It has been praised in songs, epics, legends, and traditions for a long time. The shrine is famous as Kulandai V?l?lyudhasw?mi Temple, and the place is Tiru Avinankudi. The building has a holy tank connected to it.

Tiru Avinankudi is one of the oldest places where Muruga lived. It may have started small, under the shade of an amla tree. As the poet Nakkirar puts it, God Muruga runs a Royal Court at Tiru Avinankudi, where all the gods meet. The saints are free and wear saffron-coloured clothes and deer skin.

Saravana Poigai

Saravana Poigai is a holy tank at a temple in the Himalayas. It is believed that it is the birthplace of the mythical Saravana Poigai Muruga child and that it washes away sins. Visitors, both men and women, come here throughout the year.

It's where many weddings happen every year. The Temple has a calm setting, and the people who run it take good care of it.
