Sri Sita Rama Temple

The Sri Sita Rama Temple is beautiful, close to the River Godavari. Bhadrachalam is a significant town for pilgrims in Telangana. Near Bhadrachalam, in Parnasala, people believe that Lord Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana lived while they stayed in the woods for 14 years. While Rama and Lakshmana were not around, Ravana took Sita from this spot. It is one of the must-see places to visit in Bhadrachalam for devotees and tourists alike.

Historical Significance of Sri Sita Rama Temple

A story says that teacher Bhadra gave penance to Lord Rama on the banks of the river Godavari in Dandakaranya so that Lord Rama would provide him with Divya darshan. Sage Bhadra asked Rama to sit on his head, but Rama, looking for his wife Sita, told his followers that Bhadra's wish would come true when he returned from finding Sita.

As Rama could not keep his promise in this life, Sage Bhadra continued his discipline even more fervently. Lord Rama remembered his word and showed up in front of Sage Bhadra. He then settled down on the mountain as Vaikunta Rama.

Architectural Features

The Dravidian style was used to build the temple for Lord Rama and Devi. From the pretty main gopura, about 50 steep steps lead to the temple. The Sudarshan Chakra, Lord Vishnu's weapon, can be seen on top of the gopura. There is a small chamber for Anjaneya at the main entry. There is also a small museum in the temple building where people can see the jewellery of Bhakta Ramadas made for Lord Rama.

Festivals and Celebrations

The temple's important events are Kartika Poornima, Sri Rama Navami (March/April), and Vaikunta Ekadashi (Dec/Jan), which lasts 10 days. On these days, lakhs of followers come to the town. The lively Teppotsavam (boat fair) is a big deal on Vaikunta Ekadashi day. The devotees placed the statues of Lord Rama and Sita on a decorated swan boat and moved them through the river Godavari in the evening. The best thing about this event is the fantastic fireworks. Several hotels spread out across the town of Bhadrachalam offer good places to stay.
