The Mylavaram Dam irrigation project is across the Penna River near Mylavaram. The Dam is in the Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh. It is one of the most beautiful lakes on the Pennar River and a must-see during the Gandikota tour package.

Why was the Mylavaram Dam constructed?

They constructed the Mylavaram Dam near Gandikota in Andhra Pradesh, India, primarily for irrigation. The water from the Krishna River is essential for farming in this area. It helps a lot in the nearby area. The Dam provides a regular flow of water for irrigation. It helps in increasing the farming results.

In terms of tourism, the place is peaceful and beautiful. It also provides views of the Gandikota Fort. People who love nature and history come to the place to explore the Dam and fort. The view from the Dam, with the adjoining Gandikota Gorge—often-reverberating as the "Grand Canyon of India"—is an equally famous picnic spot for visitors who come here to relish the natural ambience of this place.

What are the purposes of Mylavaram Dam?

They built Mylavaram Dam, a clay dam, to provide irrigation for 75,000 acres. Additionally, it is famous as the Tatireddy Narasimha Reddy Reservoir. By the end of 1981–1982, they had completed the project, including constructing the Dam and the canals. Subsequently, they finished the distribution system by 1985–1986.

Moreover, the pond can hold a total of 9.96 TMC of water. The reservoir features two main canals: the MR South Canal and the MR North Canal. Specifically, the MR South Canal covers 25,000 acres, while the MR North Canal covers 50,000. Furthermore, the Srisailam right bank canal will be finished soon, allowing water from the Krishna River to flow from the Srisailam Dam to this reservoir.

Are there any activities at the Dam?

The Mylavaram Dam is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Gandikota. The view from the Dam is gorgeous, and there is a museum close by.
