The Adoni Fort from the 1400s is an interesting piece of history. You can also go hiking through the rocks and fort ruins. The Adoni Fort is one of the best places to visit near Mantralayam.

Several gates lead into the fort and have seven huge rock hills around it. The fort is made up of 12 smaller forts that were built over many ages. Most of the core fort area is still in ruins, and the archeology department needs to work to bring a lot of people back to the fort. Venu Gopala Temple is a beautiful temple that was built during the Vijayanagara era on a large scale with their signature style of building.

One of the most important places for pilgrims to visit in Adoni is the Ranamandala Anjaneya Swamy Temple, which is inside the fort. A lot of people from nearby places come to visit, especially during Hanuman Jayanti and other big holidays. The Adoni fort is a must visit during the Mantralayam tour package.

All the important parts of the fort take around 4 hours to explore. People think that the fort has hidden tunnels that link it to the Bellary and Hampi forts.

What is Adoni famous for?

History shows that Adoni was under the rule of several strong countries, such as the powerful Vijayanagar dynasty, the Yadavas, and the Bijapur Sultanate. This state is famous as "the cotton state of South India" because it grows a lot of cotton in the area.

What is the story of Adoni Fort?

The walls around Adoni Fort are more than 50 km long, making it one of the biggest forts in India. Back in the 1400s, Adoni was a defence base for the Vijayanagara Empire. After the Vijayanagara kingdom fell, the Bijapur king took it over.

Nobles chosen by the Bijapur sultans continued to run Adoni as a fairly independent region. Because Siddi Masud was the ruler of Adoni, he added to the fort by building the Jamia Masjid and several townships. Siddi Masud loved to collect paintings.

After then, Adoni was ruled by the Mughal Empire, and then next to that, it was ruled by the Nizams of Hyderabad. Both of these dynasties ruled over the city. Tipu Sultan ruled this area for a short time. It stayed a part of the Ceded region (Rayalaseema) until it got its freedom.

Why is Adoni called the second Bombay?

Adoni is on the line between the states of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. During British rule, the city was popular as the "Second Mumbai." It was famous because all kinds of businesses were based there.
