Bindu Sarovar is a sacred pond in Siddhpur town, near Patan, Gujarat. It is one of Gujarat's sacred locations and one of the most popular places to visit in Patan. It is located on the banks of the Saraswati River.

Bindu Sarovar means "lake of drops." It is a belief that Lord Mahavishnu's tears fell into this lake. Bindu Sarovar, or Matru Gaya Kshetra, is one of Hinduism's five sacred theertham (Pancha Sarovar). The remaining four are Manas Sarovar in Tibet, Pushkar Sarovar in Rajasthan, Narayana Sarovar in Gujarat, and Pampa Sarovar in Karnataka.

Generally, people go to Bodhgaya in Bihar to offer pinda to their male ancestors. Sarovar is the only spot in India where Matru Shradh happens. It is also famous as Sri-sthal, a 'pious location' in the Rig-Veda, an early Vedic scripture.

History

According to mythology, Bindu Sarovar is where Sage Kardhama performed a terrible penance for ten thousand divine years before seeing Lord Vishnu. Sage Kapila preached Moksha Gnana to his Mother Devhuti on the banks of the Saraswati River at the Sarovar. He performed the Matru Shradh for his mother's redemption.

Lord Parshuram is reported to have performed 'Matru Shradh' at Bindu Sarovar, and a temple dedicated to him has been built for visitors. As a result, Sarovar is revered in the same way as Allahabad's Triveni Sangam is.

The temples of Sri Kapila Mahamuni, Sage Kardama Prajapati, Devahuti, and Gaya Gadhadhara are located along the Bindu Sarovar's shoreline. On the other side, there is a temple to Lord Shiva. Because sage Kapila delivered this lecture during the Hindu calendar's holy month of Kartik, this location hosts a large fair yearly in Kartik. The time when people from far and near come to this sacred Sarovar to do rituals for their deceased moms.

What is Bindu Sarovar famous for?

Sarovar is extremely important to Hindus. It is the only spot in India where people pray for the "moksha" of their mother. As a structure, the temple has a beautiful design. Bindu Sarovar is a place worth visiting during the Patan tour package.
