History 

Vanraj Chavda established A?ahilpur in 802 CE as the capital of his state. Capital got its name from his friend, Anhil Bharvad. A?ahilpur Patan was famous as the capital of the Vanraj Chavda and Solanki or Chalukya dynasties. 

The town was controlled by great rulers such as Bhimdev, Siddhraj Jaisinh, and Kumarpal. Udan, Munjal Mehta, and Tejpal-Vastupal served as secretaries to the Kings of the Chalukya dynasty throughout various periods.

Hemchandracharya and Shripal were the two Jain scholars who guided the Monarchy of the City. Hemchandracharya was also a famous philosopher. He knew Grammar, philosophy, and history. He got the title of "Kalikal Sarvagna," meaning he had a strong knowledge of the Kali-Yug.

The District was founded on October 2, 1997, combining sections of Mahesana and Banaskantha districts. Patan District was established, including Patan, Siddhapur, Chanasma, Harij, and Sami Talukas of Mehsana District and Radhanpur and Santalpur Talukas of Banaskantha District. The District's headquarters are in Patan.
