Shankheshwar Parshwanath Jain Mandir is an ancient Jain temple in Gujarat's town of Shankeshwar. It is an important Jain pilgrimage site near Ahmedabad. The Shankheshwar temple is one of the top destinations to visit as part of the Patan tour package.

The Shankeshwar birthplace is second only to those on Shatrunjaya Hill in Palitana regarding its importance to Swetambara Jains. It is one of the most popular places to visit in Patan. Aside from the original sanctuary, the temple features an open square, a decorated square, a large square, and two meeting halls.

The temple's sanctuary features an about 182 cm tall white-colored idol of Bhagwan Shankheshwar Parshwa in Padmasana posture. The main idol's room has two other rooms of idols of Lords Bhidbhanjan Parshwanath and Ajitanatha near it. The temple also houses the idols of Dharanendra, Padmavati, Parshva, and Chakreshwari.

Shankheshwar Parshwanath Jain Mandir history

Sajjan Shah built the temple on the banks of the Rupen River in 1098 CE and dedicated it to Lord Parshwanath. In 1229 CE, Vastupal Tejpal was the one to restore the temple with the help of Vardhamansuri's suggestions.

In the 14th century, Alauddin Khaiji destroyed the temple. Later in the 16th century, Vijay Sensuri was the one to inspire the construction of a new temple. The temple has 52 idols. However, the construction of the temple was finished in 1811 CE.

According to another mythology story, there was a fight between Jarasandha and Lord Krishna. Lord Krishan threw Jarasandha on his arm. The awful event was better by showering the army with Shri Prabhu's idol bathing water.

Other Jain temples in Shankeshwar include the Agam Mandir. The modern vast complex of 108 Parshwanath and Padmavati, Rajendrasuri Navkar Mandir, Kalapurnam Smriti Mandir, Guru Mandir, and Dadawadi.
