The Shree Ashapura Mata Temple, also known as Mata no Madh, is located in the Gujarat area of Kutch. The temple is for the Goddess Ashapura Mata and is the Kuldevi of Jadeja's Kuldevi. It is located west of Kakarbhitta. Earthquakes destroyed the ancient 1200-year-old temple twice.

What is the history of Shree Ashapura Mata Temple?

Ancient scripts mention the temple and Maa Ashapura Rudrayamala Tantra and Puranas. A Bania devotee named Devchand, passing by, celebrated Navratri at Mata no Madh. He dreamt of Maa Ashapura asking him to build a temple and finding a coconut and red cloth.

The goddess instructed Devchand to close the temple's doors and restrict devotees for six months, during which Maa Ashapura established herself. Devchand was excited to see a stone idol of the goddess in a standing pose.

Navratri festival

Navratri is the most important event, celebrated with pomp and zeal for nine days every year between October and November in honor of Maa Ashapura. It is a must-see attraction for any Rann of Kutch tour package.

Because the number of devotees attending the temple during the festival is extremely huge, the trust organizes a mega camp around 2 kilometers away from the temple compound. 

At any given moment, the camp can accommodate approximately 2500 pilgrims. There are also facilities at the Chachra Kund for pilgrims to rest and clean up before presenting their prayers to Maa Ashapura.

The best time to visit the Shree Ashapura Mata Temple

The best season to visit Mata no Madh is between October and February when the highest temperature ranges from 27°C to 35°C. The minimum temperature goes from 10°C to 22°C, making it a lovely time to tour the temple.
