About Pathaleshwara TempleĀ

The Pathaleshwara Temple is one of the major parts of Belur Tourism, and it has been a place that has been followed for a long time by religious followers. In any Chikamagalur tour package, the inclusion of Pathaleshwara Temple is a must.

The town consisted of the Ganga kings, who are known to develop the construction of the Pathaleshwara Temple. It is also one of the ancient sculptures constructed by them. There are a total of five lingas that were constructed in the city, and the Pathaleshwara Temple is one of them.

However, the Pathaleshwara Temple is well known for its uniqueness and is clearly the spot that is visited by most of the tourists. This is because the lingam present in the Temple is absolutely unique in many senses. Perhaps, the best part by which it attracts the visitors is by the change of colors spotted in the lingam. It has been spotted that the lingam of Lord Shiva changes its colors at different times of the day.

Main Attraction

The reason why the Temple is one of the top places to visit in Belur is because of this change of colour. The Shiva lingam inside the Pathaleshwara Temple has been seen to obtain a bright red colour in the morning. The colour changes drastically to black during the afternoon. At night, the Shiva lingam turns white, and this has been a matter of discussion for many people over the years.

Festivities

The number of pilgrims hit the highest during the event of Panchalingadarshana, which occurs once every 12 years. Visitors are able to see all the five lingas together.

Architecture

The Temple is one of the finest ancient temples which are well known for being constructed by carving on stones.

The main Shiva lingam inside the Temple is located under the ground, and the place has fantastic architecture. Alongside the temple walls, there are multiple sculptures of Gods carved out. As per popular myth, the Temple was under the sand and ground, hence the name Pathaleshwara.

Pataleshwar Mandir Timing

The Temple can be visited from 7:30 AM to 6:30 PM in the evening.
