Lachung Monastery is a small and vibrant religious group. There may be a two-story problem with two metal flying snakes over the patio with heavy prayer wheels. The Cloister hosts all the main events with winter robes each year.

Today, the Lachung Monastery is one of the main religious groups in North Sikkim. Surrounded by magnificent apple farms, the lonely religious community provides breathtaking vistas of the wide-open landscape and the entirety of Lachung Valley, making it one of the best places to visit in Lachung.

Lachung monastery History

"Lachung" means "a small mountain." The title was chosen because of its location on a small mountain. The Cloister was built in 1880. Even though it is somewhat recent, the initiation of this accomplishment was conceived in the interest of disseminating Buddhism to a larger audience in Sikkim.

The Cloister is an important aspect of life for those following the Buddhist faith. In addition to this, you may be surprised to learn that the Lachung Religious Community manages an interesting discussion group known as the Zumsa, which accommodates the whole township. The Pipon oversees this very large assembly.

Architectural Highlights

The design of the Lachung Monastery takes after the engineering of any of the main cloisters presented in Nepal and China. The Lachung Monastery has very spacious halls and multiple floors. The doors and windows stand out independently, making them a significant attraction in Lachung tour packages.

It looks bright and lively on the outside, too. It has many great drawings, wall art, and old statues that impress any visitor. The main feature of the Lachung Religious group is the figure of Buddha. The Monastery has plants and bright flags that reflect the beauty of its religious community. The builders primarily used wood for the Monastery to keep it light, as it stands on the side of a mountain.

Scenic Surroundings

Situated amidst the stunning Himalayas, Lachung Monastery grants wonderful views of the snow-peaked mountains and green fields. The still ambiance, fresh mountain air, and colorful prayer flags far add to the peace of relaxation. To come here is to behold nature's beauty and feel the spiritual charm of this ancient church.
