There is a story behind the sacred mango tree. It is believed that once upon a time, a woman called Kanikka was performing meditation. She wanted to marry Lord Shiva. Once, Lord Shiva tested her devotion. In front of the lady, lord Shiva appeared in the form of a handsome groom. During that time, the lady Kanikka agreed. Lord Shiva kept a condition that she had to live near the mango tree for 14 years.
Later on, She agreed to the condition. Impressed with the devotion of the lady, Lord Shiva appeared in the form of Lord Ekambareswarar in front of her, and Kanika became Goddess Parvati.
Sacred mango tree
It is believed that currently, the mango tree that is present in the temple is around 3500 years old. The mangoes that are coming on the tree are of four types- and these four types depict birth, youth, marriage, and old age.
