Sri Kanchi Kamakshi Amman Temple is a holy Temple in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. The naval part of the Goddess fell at this place, and then it led to one of the 51 Shakti Peethas. The temple is of major importance among Hindus. 

History of the Sri Kanchi Kamakshi Amman Temple

It is believed that the temple was constructed around 2,000 years ago. Aadi Shankaracharya was a very famous philosopher who contributed a lot to the Sri Kanchi Kamakshi Amman Temple. So, the influence of the philosopher Shankaracharya played a very important role in establishing the temple.

Different dynasties ruled the place, like Cholas and Vijayanagara and all of them contributed a lot towards the development of the temple. Different types of religious festivals also happen in the temple. Brahmotsavam is an annual festival which is celebrated in the temple. Along with this, the Navratri celebration is again a major festival which happens here. 

The architecture of the Temple

The temple has been covered in an area of 5 acres. When you enter the temple, you will find a large Gopuram at the temple entrance. Inside the temple, you will find different Mandapams or halls also. You can see all over the place very beautiful architecture and carvings have been done.

It is always advised to go at 6:00 a.m. as you will find very few crowds during that time. Every day, four times prayers happen inside the temple. So, in case you cannot go during the morning, you can also go during these hours. It is advised to visit the famous Sri Kanchi Kamakshi Amman Temple while going to different places to visit in Kanchipuram.
