This was constructed in 1886. It was in memory of the Governor of Madras, William Patrick Adam that this fountain was built. It’s to honor the last few days of his life that he spent in Ooty. It is presently situated on the Charing Cross Junction.
Earlier it was installed right in front of the office of Collector. It was believed that more number of people will be able to appreciate the design and beauty of this fountain if it was placed at a central location. It was because of the shortage of water that this fountain was moved to Charing Cross Junction in the year 1898. Where the fountain stands now, there was a tree of melanoxynol growing which had to be cut to place this monument of memory. A total of 14 thousand Rupees was spent on this fountain, that money was collected from the public. Being one of the oldest Fountains in India, people from all over the globe come to Ooty especially to see this heritage monument which is a British legacy.
