About Bandipur National Park

Positioned amidst the thick verdant wilderness of the Ghats, the park falls on the highway between Mysore and Ooty, and spans over an area of 874.2 square kilometers. It forms a part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. History

Formerly used for game hunting in 1931, the park was founded by Mysore’s Maharaja who named it Venugopala National Park. After Project Tiger was launched in 1973, the park’s name was changed to its present name.
