Ajmer is one of the oldest and one of the most beautiful places in India. It resides in the north Indian state of Rajasthan. The city is also known as the heart of Rajasthan. The city was recognized as 'Ajayameru' (invincible hills) by either Ajayraja I or Ajayraja II of Chahamana. This city served as a capital for them until the 12th century CE. Ajmer is also one of the most important destinations of Islamic pilgrimage in south Asia. Aravalli mountains surround the city and have been a municipality since 1869. Ajmer has also been selected by the government of India as one of the heritage cities for HRIDAY and Smart city mission schemes. The city is rather very hot and has a semi-arid climate with rainfall over 55 centimeters or 22 inches every year. During summers which start from April and stretch around early July, the daily average temperature soars around 30degree C or 86degree F. The winters here are mild in the months of November to February; the daily average temperature ranges from 15degree C to 18degree C. 

Places to visit in Ajmer:

Of the number of PLACES TO VISIT IN AJMER, one of those places in Pushkar. Pushkar is a sacred spot for Hindus. It is known for its one and only temple, which worships Lord Brahma. Devotees gather here in large numbers during the month of Karthik to take a dip in the holy Sarovar. 

Lake Foy is also another tourist location; it is an artificial lake. An English Engineer, Mr. Foy, in 1892 AD, built this lake. The lake offers a breath-taking view of the Aravalli hills. 

The most famous tourist place in Ajmer would be the Ajmer Sharif Dargah, the shrine of Khwaja Muin-ud-din Chishti. It is also very famous for the spectacular Jain golden temple. Ajmer has pilgrimage centers for several religions.

Lakes in Ajmer:

The lakes in Ajmer are beautiful sights to see, which enhance the beauty of the city immensely. One of them is the Ana Sagar Lake which is the largest artificial lake in Ajmer. This lake is located almost at the heart of the city and is just 2 KMs away from Ajmer railway station. The best time to visit this lake is in the monsoon when due to rain, the lake is filled with water. Otherwise, in summers, this lake dries up completely every year. Ana Sagar Lake is also famous for its magnificent sunset. It is a major attraction for tourists as well as the locals.

Another very famous lake in Ajmer is Lake Foy which was built as a part of popular famine relief by a British architect named- Mr. Foy in the year 1892. This is also a manmade artificial lake that has a breath-taking 360degree view of the Aravalli hills. It is located around 7 KMs from Ajmer railway station.
