One of the former Princely states of Rajasthan, Jodhpur has a charm that none can miss. Jodhpur is the second largest city in the Indian state of Rajasthan and is popularly known as the “Blue city”. The name is appropriate, owing to its beautiful architecture being mainly different shades of the colour blue. The sight of the blue buildings is truly impeccable. The city of Jodhpur was founded by  Rao Jodha, a Rajput chief belonging from the famous Rathore clan in the year 1459. Later enough, Jodhpur became the revered capital of the famous Kingdom of Marwar, which is now a part of Rajasthan. Places to visit in Jodhpur

1.    THE MEHRANGARH FORT -  The Mehrangarh Fort is among the most important tourist attractions in Jodhpur city. Situated on a hill. Which is 125 metres above the city skyline, the Mehrangarh Fort is a beautiful sight to behold. This Fort is known for its intricate historical background, adept with stories. The Fort still proudly displays the marks of all the wars and attacks that it endured in the past years, some of which can be seen on the second gate of this Fort (marks of cannonball attacks). Inside the Fort resides the Moti Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, and the Phool Mahal which all possess intricately different and significant features of their own.
2.    UMAID BHAWAN PALACE – The Umaid Bhawan Palace was made by Maharaja Umaid Singh in the year 1929. This Palace was exclusively designed by the British architect Henry Vaughan Lanchester. The construction of this beautiful palace is said to have taken more than 3000 workers and approximately 15 years to complete. The palace has a total of 365 rooms. The palace is still inhabited by the successors of the Maharaja, while only a part of it is open for visitors, which has been turned into a museum. The museum displays a range of antique objects including clocks.
3.    KHEJARLA FORT – The Khejarla Fort is situated 85 kilometres away from the main city of Jodhpur and stands tall overlooking the Marwar plains. This fort has now been turned into a Heritage hotel by Bhandari Heritage Pvt. Ltd. for tourists to get a glimpse of the royal lifestyle of the previous Rajput royals. The fort is carved out of red sandstone, and is a prime example of Rajput architecture. This Fort has been often used for film and series shootings owing to its beautiful interior and is even available for events such as wedding bookings.
4.    CHAMUNDA MATAJI TEMPLE – Chamunda Mataji was King Rao Jodha’s favourite goddess which is why her idol was brought to the city into the Mehrangarh Fort. Since then, the locals have worshipped Chamunda Mataji and the place was eventually converted into a temple for all. The Royal family even adopted  Goddess Chamunda Mataji as their family Goddess (Isht Devi).
5.    RANISAR PADAMSAR – The Ranisar and Padamsar are two adjacent lakes located near the Fateh Pole in Mehrangarh area. These lakes were constructed in the year 1459. The Ranisar lake was constructed on the orders of Queen Jasmadar Hadi, wife of Rao Jodha and the Padamsar lake was constructed on the orders of Queen Padmini of Rao Ganga, daughter of Rana Sanga of Mewar.
