The Ghanta Ghar/ Clock Tower of Jodhpur was built almost 200 years ago by Maharaja Sardar Singh. Located in the Sardar Market of Jodhpur, near the Mehrangarh Fort area, the Ghanta Ghar/ Clock tower served as an important landmark of Old Jodhpur. The majestic architectural similarity of this clock tower to that of the famous London clock tower is glaringly visible. It is thus popularly believed that the clock and its parts were actually brought in from the same company in London that made the London clock tower. This tower is thus an important part of the list places to visit in Jodhpur. Almost all JODHPUR TOUR PACKAGES offer a glimpse of this tower.

A brief history of Ghanta Ghar

The Ghanta Ghar/ Clock Tower was built somewhere between late 19th century and early 20th century by Maharaja Sardar Singh of Jodhpur who belonged from the Rathod-Rajput dynasty. The tower is situated in the midst of the market which is synonymous with the Maharaja’s name. The place was not a market previously during the era when it was constructed, but owing to the amount of attention the tower got, several shops began to be set up.  The huge clock is quite a sight, and is working till date.
