Nagireddy Sagar, previously known as Vijayapuri, is a tourist attraction and one of the main attractions in Nagarjuna Sagar. It is very famous for its large Nagarjuna Sagar Dam, which is one of the largest brick dams in the world. The dam is in the area between the districts of Nalgonda in Telangana and Guntur in Andhra Pradesh.
Engineers built it across the Krishna River. A great example of engineering. The site provides both irrigation and hydroelectric power. It formed one of the largest lakes in India in this scenario. This surrounded by excellent scenic beauty so that is the main hub for picnic and boating.
What is special about Nagarjuna Sagar?
An important Buddhist teacher and philosopher named Acharya Nagarjuna is where the town's name comes from. The island in the Nagarjuna Konda waterway is a major archaeological site where people have kept Buddhist artefacts safe.
The Nagarjuna Konda, a busy Buddhist centre, was in the Ikshvaku kingdom. The whole place is dotted with old stupas, monasteries, and relics. One can reach the Nagarjuna Konda Museum by boat. It keeps the artifacts and informs you of the region's Buddhist history. Nagarjuna is a great place to visit because it has a great mix of natural beauty, historical importance, and modern infrastructure.
The best time to visit
As with all towns in Andhra Pradesh, Nagarjuna Sagar has a tropical climate. It means that the best time to visit is in the winter, from October to February. The town's winters are mildly cool, which is nice after the hot and sticky summers. For those planning a visit, various Nagarjuna Sagar tour packages offer great options to explore the region during this pleasant time.
It might get cool during the busy season, the best time to see the town's beauty. During the monsoon season, it rains moderately to heavily, which makes the scenery three times more beautiful. However, this makes it less suitable for touring and other activities.
