India Gate

Along the Rajpath in New Delhi is the All India War Memorial, also famous as the India Gate. It is one of the most popular places in Delhi. People often say that India Gate looks like the Arch de Triomphe in France, the Gateway of India in Mumbai, or the Arch of Constantine in Rome because of how big and impressive it is. It is one of the biggest war memorials in the country. 

What is India Gate famous for?

India Gate is the war memorial situated in New Delhi, dedicated to the Indian soldiers who lost their lives in the First World War. It is a large arch with names inscribed on it. Most of the Delhi tours package includes a visit to this place.

History

The British decided in 1921 that an India Gate would be built in New Delhi to commemorate Indian and British soldiers who had fought for the British Empire in the First World War. The construction of graves and shrines for them was also part of it.

The Duke of Connaught laid the monument's first stone on February 10, 1921. On February 12, 1931, India's Viceroy, Lord Irwin, inaugurated the memorial. This song was written by the songwriter to commemorate the men who died in the war. He wanted future generations to know of their great sacrifice for their country.

What time to visit India Gate?

Delhi has very high temperatures. Summers and winters are unpleasant, but monsoons make it hard to be outside. But February through April and August through November are good times to visit Delhi. The Gate can be seen at any time of the day. The view at night is stunning, and the lighting is just proper. India Gate is beautiful when decorated for Independence Day (August 15) or Republic Day (January 26).
