Overview

The Jahaz Mahal in Delhi is the very definition of breathtakingly beautiful. It attracts a huge number of tourists daily, something that DELHI TOUR PACKAGES can afford to pay attention to. This magnificent monument stands in the Mehrauli area in New Delhi, reflecting great engineering and superlative design. During the Lodi family's rule, builders constructed Jahaz Mahal with great care and attention to detail.

The name 'Jahaz Mahal' means 'Ship Palace.' This lovely name comes from the structure's location near a lake called Hauz-i-Shamsi. The monument makes a stunning image in the clear water of this lake that shows a lovely, ornate ship sailing on the ocean.

Why is Jahaz Mahal famous?

The Jahaz Mahal is located in the Mehrauli region of Delhi. It is renowned for its magnificent buildings. Architecture takes the shape of a ship that floats in water during the rain. It was constructed during the 1400s and was mainly used as a resting place for passing travellers and visitors. The Mahal constitutes one of the most excellent sites to visit in Delhi. It has a tranquil environment, an attractive reflecting pool, and detailed carvings, which outline it among the major historical places.

History of Jahaz Mahal

Jahaz Mahal was built between 1452 and 1526. The time is towards the end of the Lodi era and the beginning of the Mughal Empire. The word for ship in Urdu is "jahaz," and the word for house is "mahal." The palace's name comes from the fact that it is in a special place on the edge of the Hauz-i-Shamsi.

It is a huge water tank in Mehrauli, South Delhi. It was dug out by Sultan Iltutmish, the ruler at the time, in 1230. When the palace's image hits the water in the reservoir, the building appears to float on a large body of water. Historians still need to find out why this historical building was built, even though there are many stories about it.

Architecture

History buffs flock to the palace for majestic Mughal architecture and colourful craftsmanship. Jahaz Mahal's ornate carvings and blue-tiled cenotaph are its most outstanding features. The palace's rectangular courtyard has magnificently arched rooms on all sides.

The courtyard overlooking nature outside the mansion is the palace's most popular spot for sightseeing and relaxing after a long tour. The palace's main entrance originally opened from the south over a wooden bridge, but now it's through the east. Covering the moat around Jahaz Mahal allows access to its entrance.

The best time to visit

February to June and August to November are the best months to visit the Jahaz Mahal and other nearby attractions. The summers and winters in Delhi are very hot and foggy, which makes it hard to see the historical places. Every day of the year, people can visit the spot.
