National Zoological Park

The National Zoological Park, also known as Chidiya Ghar, opened in 1959 near The Old Fort in Delhi. It is a popular place for kids and adults to spend the weekend. History of the Zoo

Mr. Punjab Rao Deshmukh officially opened the Park on November 1, 1959. He was a minister for the Indian government. At first, it was called Delhi Zoo. They designated it the National Zoological Park in 1982 to make it the best zoo in the country. 

People all over the country could have fun at the zoo that the Indian Board for Wildlife thought should be in the country's capital. They put together an ad hoc group with some popular nature lovers from Delhi, including Indira Gandhi. The Chief Commissioner led the group. Their job was to devise a plan for creating a Zoological Park in Delhi.
