The Red Fort, famous as Quila-e-Mubarak or the Blessed Fort, is next to the river Yamuna. The water from the river fed the moats around the fort. It formed a part of Shahjahan Abad, the mediaeval city known as "Old Delhi". The fort is a popular place to see in Delhi.

People say the whole fort complex shows how creative and brilliant Mughal construction was. UNESCO named the site a World Heritage Site in 2007. The Archaeological Survey of India keeps this beautiful structure safe and in good shape. The place is worth visiting during the Delhi tour package.

What is the history of Red Fort Delhi?

The building of the Fort began on May 13, 1638, during the holy month of Muharram. After nine years of work, Shahjahan completed the Fort on April 6, 1648. Unlike typical Mughal buildings, they made the walls asymmetrically to preserve the older Salimgarh Fort.

It was the centre of Mughal rule until the Great Revolt in 1857. It includes some buildings that Shah Jahan made during his reign and some that the following rulers added. When his son Aurangzeb became emperor after a bloody war between him and his three brothers, he said the Pearl Mosque, also known as the Moti Masjid, to the fort complex.

Who has built the Red Fort?

The Red Fort is a famous fort located in the area of old Delhi. It was built by Shah Jahan in 1639, shortly after the capital moved from Agra to Delhi. Moreover, this impressive building served as the primary home of the Mughal rulers. Its name comes from its red sandstone walls, which are incredibly strong and cannot be broken through.
