Who is buried at the Safdarjung tomb?

Mirza Muqim Abul Mansur Khan, known as Safadarjung, served as the ruler of Muhammad Shah and later as Prime Minister of the Mughal kingdom in Delhi after Mohammed Shah Ahmed Shah's conquest in 1748.

In politics, Safdarjung was a big deal. As Prime Minister, he had all the important powers, leaving the king as a puppet who had no say in what happened. In 1753, the Marathas drove Safdarjung out of Delhi because his power had grown too great. He died soon after, in 1754.

His son Shujaud Daula asked the Mughal Emperor to let him build a tomb for his father after he died. In 1386, Timur of Mangol and Mohammed Tughlaq fought a fight on the southern end of the tomb. It is an important historical site.
