Dodda Ganapati Temple

Believed to be formed on its own over time, the sacred idol of the Hindu lord Ganapathi is what the renowned temple is established and named after. When looking for peaceful places in Bangalore, this Shakti Ganesha temple is one out of several devotional places in the city that provides your soul with a perfect atmosphere for spending some peaceful time with yourself or your family.

As mentioned in the epics of Hindu Mythology, lord Ganpathi is the son of the almighty Shankara. The Hindu lord’s idol is formed with an elephant’s head over a human’s body and he is worshipped before every other God. It is said that the strategies of the third war of Mysore against the British in the late 18th century were brought here for his blessings. As the name of the temple suggests from the Kannada roots of the word 'Dodda' (meaning 'big') one of the most popular Satya Ganapathi's idol carved here is as 'huge' as 18 by 16 feet in its dimensions. The astounding dimensions of the idol make it one of the rarest Ganesha forms made available for darshan in not only the capital but also across the nation.

Not only is the peaceful temple known for its atmosphere and the astonishing size of the 'murti' but also for its startling decorations done in the most beautiful way possible. The way the idol is decorated with such delicate details, it surely justifies the devotion of the people towards the temple and its subsequent popularity. Seeing the love and belief of Ganesha worshippers here, no wonder the temple is one of the most visited places in Bangalore

A week in every four long years the temple witnesses a huge celebration of decorating, feeding and praying to the lord. One of the most awaited festivals in Bangalore is the 'Benne Alankara' when this huge idol is whole-heartedly fed with over 110 kilograms of pure butter. During the week-long fest which is witnessed by people from all over the globe, the 'murti' is adorned with beautiful clothes, jewellery and laces which enhances the overall appeal of the festival, thus making it a festival worth attending atleast once in a lifetime. This represents an exceptional highlight and a crucial addition to your Bangalore Tour Packages.
