Architecture and History
Constructed in the budget of about two crores in the 1950s, it was conceived by the Mysore C.M.- K. Hanumanthaiah. The white building is a prominent reminder of Colonial times. Standing over eight sturdy pillars is the elite dome measuring the radius of a huge 30 feet. Topped in the centre by the lions of the national emblem, the dome will fill you with pride. The building was constructed by gifted artisans in a Dravidian form which makes it a very distinct structure in itself. The elegant arches and a porch with divisions about forty feet in height made of matte granite which count upto twelve in number built over the building look amazing. It distinguishes itself as a unique aspect and is a vital inclusion in your Bangalore Tour Packages.
Attractions
The building is magnificently lit up on the occasion of special days and national holidays which is a major attraction here. People visit in huge numbers to experience the lovely infrastructure beautified by coloured lights under the dark sky. Truly called as South India's magnificent TajMahal, the beautiful structure in white is one of the prime places to visit in Bangalore. Over forty stepped staircase towards the front of the building, measuring a depth of 70 feet and width of a surprising 204 feet going towards the Assembly room is another beautifying attraction of the place. The Karnataka Secretariat building being constructed right next to VidhanSoudha as its imitation named as the VikasaSoudha cannot be missed as well.
