About Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, 

The land area of over Sixty-five square kilometers of the sanctuary is full of Broadleaf forests covered mostly in Bamboos and Arjuna trees. Dr. Salim Ali recognized the potential of the site and after multiple requests, he managed to convince the Wadiyars for giving the land to build a safe and protected area for the birds in 1940. The rich area of the sanctuary counts among the best place to visit in Srirangapatna and a prime tourist spot under Karnataka tourism.

Best Time to explore

Nestling season between the month of June and December is the best time to enjoy watching the rare species of birds coming from across the faraway lands and waters. Up to Forty-thousand birds can be seen during the migration period of birds at its peak (mostly) in December.
