History of the place
Srirangapatna Fort is a historical fort in the heart of Srirangapatna. Srirangapatna is the historical capital city of Karnataka. The fort was built in the year 1454, by Timmanna Nayaka at the time of Tipu Sultan’s rule. The fort was made to embattle invaders with the help of French architects. Made in Indo-Islamic style, the fort attracts tourists from far places.
Srirangapatna Fortfalls under one of the best places to visit in Srirangapatna. The Kaveri River surrounds the historical fort from one side. Lal Mahal and Tipu Sultan’s palace were made inside the fort. However, in 1799, the palace got demolished during the British Capture.
There are seven outlets and two dungeons inside. The Ranganathaswamy Temple built by Ramanuja is built inside the temple. The temple falls under the western side of the fort. There is also Narasimhaswamy temple and Juma mosque built by Tipu Sultan inside the fort.

The Fort has got the famous Lal Mahal where Tipu Sultan used to reside. The palace was destroyed back in 1799 and now it is in ruins with a board describing the reasons for its ruin. Lal Mahal excelled in its architecture.
It had an excellent design with beautiful works on walls, consisted of an audience wall, a library and a women’s quarter called Zenana. The fort also had drainage and piping system built in it. Tipu sultan fort covered huge acres of land. It covered over 1500 houses, 6000 people could inhabit in it. There were also chambers inside the fort for the prisoners.
